Research, Reform, Revive: The Epistemology of Janusz Korczak

Dr. Aviv Livnat, Bezalel Academy of Art and Design; Tel Aviv University
Dr. Aviv Livnat is an artist, Jazz musician and a lecturer at the Bezalel Art Academy and Tel Aviv University and NYU TA where he is also the curator of the NYUTA Core Collection of Contemporary Art. His areas of interest lie in the history and philosophy of the arts, East European Jewish history, Yiddish culture and the Avant-garde. Aviv is also a social activist; he established and heads the Raz-Ram Foundation, a special art foundation operating in diverse artistic fields among Arab, Druze, Bedouin and Jewish children and communities. He is the director of the Korczak Academic Forum and is engaged in the development of research, reform and revival activities both within and beyond the boundaries of academia.
Dr. Edan Raviv, NYU Tel Aviv
Dr. Edan Raviv is the assistant director for academics at NYU Tel Aviv. In this role, Edan is responsible for ensuring that NYU’s academic curriculum, policies and learning standards are implemented locally. Edan holds a Ph.D. in political science from Tel Aviv University, a master’s in politics from New York University, and a bachelor’s degree in global and international studies from UC Santa Barbara. His intellectual interests include comparative political systems, political ideology, radicalism, extremism, political philosophy, political entrepreneurship, and social innovation. In addition, Edan is engaged in the development of research, reform and revival activities both within and beyond the boundaries of academia.

Michael Kirchner (born 1944), Dr. med., after studying philosophy, theology and human medicine: specialist in general medicine (1977–2007), lecturer in the Faculty of Education (General Education) at Bielefeld University (2007–2016).
Publications: Collaboration: Janusz Korczak (1996–2006): Complete works in 16 volumes, Gütersloh: Gütersloher Verlagshaus.
Since 1984 book and magazine publications on Janusz Korczak, on “reform pedagogy” and on sexual violence against children.
DFG project (2012–2014) together with Prof. Sabine Andresen: “Education in the field of tension between profession, science and ethics. On the social and individual pedagogical positioning of Janusz Korczak ”.

Mr. Wojtek Lasota, Chairman, Korczak Foundation in Poland
Mr. Wojtek Lasota, Chairman of the Korczak Foundation, currently a trainer of business and soft skills, a collaborator in the Development Office at the University of Warsaw and Ernst&Young Foundation (Poland). Former employee of the Documentation and Research Centre KORCZAKIANUM, which is a department of the Warsaw History Museum. A theatrical instructor, art historian, copyrighter and educator (worked in the Royal Castle of Warsaw for more than ten years). As a Foundation member, he participated in a presentation dedicated to Korczak, entitled “Reformator Świata” (Reformer of the World) for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The presentation has been translated into English, German, French, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese and Italian.
He ran Korczak-themed lectures and workshops in numerous places: at the Centre of Education Development, the Institute of National Remembrance, Jewish Historical Institute, Janusz Korczak Pedagogical University of Warsaw, the Unit for Social Innovation and Research “Shipyard”, at the University of Koblenz and Landau, as well as in many schools in Warsaw and other cities. He was also a speaker during Korczak conferences in Paris and Berlin (available here). The co-creator and consultant of the article Puzzle. Janusz Korczak and Present Times (“Układanka. Janusz Korczak a współczesność”) released during the Year of Janusz Korczak (2012). A consultant at the Museum of the History of Polish Jews. He created the first postgraduate studies program in Poland that was based on Korczak’s ideas. The co-creator of an innovative studies program for students of the Institute of Social Policy of the University of Warsaw.
